Malta Shipping Symposium

We are a few days away from the Malta Shipping Symposium. Join us for interesting discussions and networking opportunities with experts in the maritime sector. Transport Malta thanks a number of supporting organizations for supporting this symposium.

We are thrilled to announce the esteemed panelists for the first panel entitled “Our 50 years Journey: a Story to Share” Dr Max Ganado, Dr Lawrence Gonzi, Mr John Gauci-Maistre K.M. and Mr Joseph Curmi moderated by Dr Stephan Piazza.

The esteemed panelists for the second panel entitled “Looking Back, Preparing for the Future” are Prof. Massimiliano Musi, Mr Ivan Sammut, Mr John C. Lyras, Mr Sotiris Raptis moderated by Dr Marthese Portelli.

MMLA Vice President at Malta Symposium on the Convention on the International Effecs of Judicial Sales of Ships

Dr. Suzanne Shaw, Vice President of the Malta Maritime Law Association , moderated a panel during the Malta Symposium on the Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships held in Malta on 26th April organised by the CMI together with the Malta Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade and UNCITRAL.

The Symposium analysed the text of the Convention which originated from the CMI and adopted by the

UN General Assembly in December 2022 which is designed and drafted to offer a streamlined process to guarantee that the free title acquired in a judicial sale is given its full effect.

Dr. Shaw was joined by Mr. Jason Korbetis, managing Director of Bluefin Marine Ltd, Mr. Tilman Stein, formerly Head Group Legal of Deutsche Bank AG and Mr. Ivan Sammut, Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen.

Dr Stephan Piazza at Waterborne Technology Platform Event

Dr. Stephan Piazza was invited to moderate on behalf of the Malta Maritime Law Association a panel discussion on the importance of EU funded research and innovation projects as enabler for the decarbonisation of the Maltese waterborne sector.

The event was organised by the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, WaterborneTP, Transport Malta and was attended by representatives of the Maltese maritime and R&D community space.

MMLA meets Hon. Ivan Castillo MP

Executive Committee Members Matthew Attard, Lisa Camilleri, Robert Radmilli and Stephan Piazza had the pleasure to welcome Hon. Ivan Castillo MP, Nationalist Party’s Shadow Minister responsible for Maritime Affairs.

During such meeting both parties discussed industry’s challenges and defined topmost priorities aimed at consolidating and strengthening further the maritime industry in Malta.

Meeting with the Minister of Justice

The Malta Maritime Law Association recently met the Minister of Justice, Jonathan Attard in order to discuss a number of proposed changes to the provisions of the Malta Code of Organisation and Civil Procedure regulating shipping matters in Malta.
